xmax encodes an incoming stereo signal into Mid and Side, and further splits the Mid signal into Low and Mid bands, giving you three independent compressors in a single masterbus processor. A fixed 10 ms attack preserves natural transients, with Auto Fast automatically shortening attack time when gain reduction exceeds 8 dB.

An adjustable crossover between the low and mid bands, a VariLink function for blending independent-band to fully-linked compressor behavior, and a Tone control for adding air round out the dynamics. A Soft Clip Limiter derived from the alpha compressor drives the signal harder without clipping downstream A/D converters.
