E-Series Deluxe Buss Compressor
E-Series Deluxe Buss Compressor
The “face that launched a thousand ships”, the 4000E with expanded features
AudioScape is proud to introduce the Buss Compressor Deluxe Stereo E-Series VCA compressor, a remarkably faithful recreation of a legendary British console’s E-Series center-section quad bus Compressor.
Truly the “face that launched a thousand ships”, it’s often said that the majority of charting hits in the 1980s were mixed on a 4000E. One of the biggest reasons engineers loved that console so much was due to the VCA quad bus compressor installed in the master section. The quad compressor had a uniquely aggressive characteristic on the low-end that made the kick and snare jump out of the monitors, and made the mixes slam. That sound was due mostly to the 202(C) Gold Can VCAs used, and the dual-transistors around them. In later revisions, the 202(C) was replaced, and the ballistics of the quad bus compressor changed dramatically.
Now, AudioScape has recreated the much-loved E-Series compressor in the Buss Comp Deluxe. AudioScape deconstructed an original 202(C) VCA and found that the actual build deviated from the printed specification, which is easily found online. AudioScape's in-house built 202C VCAs are built to the correct specification. It’s the first time since the 80s that an E-Series bus compressor has been available with correctly built VCAs! To support those VCAs, AudioScape is using NOS dual transistors that are identical to the originals. There’s no more accurate recreation of this storied compressor available. This was a labor of love and took many years to recreate accurately.
AudioScape has added a few updates to this edition, making it an even more indispensable tool for creating giant mixes. The updates include a switchable LINK function, so the Buss Comp Deluxe can be used in unlink mode, (unlike the ‘fixed’ internal link design), and a SLAM function that will take your mixes all the way to the edge!
Also included is a BLEND control, for “wet” to “dry” mixing of compressed/ uncompressed audio, and a stereo WIDTH control that can widen the soundstage, but can be defeated and removed from the signal chain by simply switching off the knob. AudioScape has added more control over the side-chain (S-C) filter by giving the user a range of high-pass corner frequencies to choose from, from 60-320 Hz, or OFF completely.
AudioScape has even added a switchable IRON feature that will engage some of their favorite Cinemag output transformers, giving even more tonal options.

Product Description
MEET GLUE! PURITY OF TONE. DEVOID OF DISTRACTIONS.
At the heart of AudioScape's E-SERIES BUSS COMPRESSOR lies a custom-designed PCB and 4 true vintage accurate custom 202C GOLD CAN VCA’s*.* Developed to exacting standards, it recreates every nuance and timbre of the original, classic British Console compressor. Employing an exclusive, true stereo sidechain design (as found in the original desks), results in a noticeable, euphonic sonic impact. The BUSS COMPRESSOR therefore has a much more pleasant, natural and open sound (especially when pushed), just like the legendary British Console’s E-Series center-section quad bus Compressor; this is where some other units tend to fall short, shrink the stereo image and underperform as compared to the original.
Original Sifam knobs and original style push button switches
Genuine, pure British Console E series compressor tone and action without countless, often unnecessary “mods” that seemingly rob this circuit of its strikingly magical ability to add glue, cohesion and added stereo field width / depth.
Hand-crafted one at a time in the USA, the E-SERIES DELUXE BUSS COMPRESSOR is truly boutique, in every sense of the word.
Don’t be fooled by mass produced imitations made overseas. Yes, AudioScape is biased. Hahaha. But they know what goes into EACH and EVERY product they offer.
As far as AudioScape is concerned, there truly is no comparison and they hope you enjoy your E-SERIES DELUXE BUSS COMPRESSOR as much as they are proud of it!
